Our Services

Checkups

Regular check-ups are an important part of maintaining lifelong dental health!

At a routine check-up we:

  • Talk with you about your concerns
  • Check your teeth for decay
  • From time to time this may involve radiographs (x-rays)
  • Check your gums to ensure they are healthy
  • Check for any diseases that might affect your teeth, gums or mouth.

After we have checked your teeth, we’ll talk to you about options for fixing any issues we find, and for making sure your mouth is as healthy as possible. This is usually the time when any necessary cleaning is performed and fluoride applied where appropriate.

Crowns and bridges

Crowns are needed when a tooth is so broken down that a filling will not be strong enough to hold the tooth together.

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching the artificial replacement tooth to the adjacent teeth with crowns.

At Toowong Dental Group we have many years’ experience with crown and bridge work. We have our own state of the art laboratory on site. This lets us control every aspect of production to make sure that you get the best quality crowns and bridges possible.

When there is extensive, very complex dental breakdown, we will refer you to a crown and bridge specialist. We have long standing relationships with some of the best crown and bridge specialists in Brisbane, and work closely with them to make sure you get the very best solution for your teeth.

Dentures

In some cases a denture is needed to replace multiple lost teeth.

There are three main types of denture:

  • Acrylic (plastic) dentures
  • Metal (Cobalt Chromium) dentures
  • Flexible plastic dentures.

At Toowong Dental Group we have a lot of experience with making dentures. We have our own state of the art laboratory on site. This lets us control every aspect of production and makes sure that you get the best quality denture possible.

In very complex cases we will refer you to a trusted prosthodontist (denture specialist) to make sure you get the best outcome.

Fillings

At Toowong Dental Group we value your oral health, so we believe the best number of fillings to have is none!

Sometimes however they are needed to fill a tooth because of decay, or a fracture.

When you need a filling, we:

  • Make you as comfortable as possible through the use of local anaesthetics
  • Use the best and most modern materials for safety, strength and appearance
  • Use the most up to date techniques to make sure your filling lasts as long as possible.

Implants

Implants are a long term solution for replacing missing teeth.

An implant is a metal post that is inserted into your jawbone underneath your gum. A replacement tooth is then secured onto the post.

At Toowong Dental group we have many years of experience providing our patients with implants. We partner with some of the best oral surgeons and periodontists (a gum specialist) in Brisbane to make sure you get the very best solution.

If an implant case is very complex we will refer you to a trusted prosthodontist (a tooth restoration specialist).

Minor Dental Surgery

Occasionally it is necessary to remove a tooth. If this is the case we will talk to you about why this is needed and what your options are.

We have extensive dental surgery experience. We focus on:

  • Making you as comfortable as possible through the use of local anaesthetics
  • Take a radiograph (x-ray) to determine the exact shape of the tooth root
  • Careful tooth extraction
  • Providing you with advice on how to care for your mouth after tooth extractions.

If your tooth extraction is likely to be complicated, we will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon to make sure you get the best possible treatment.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialised area of dentistry and complex cases should be undertaken by a specialist.

We are highly skilled at assessing dental needs and will refer you to a trusted orthodontist who will make sure you get the best possible outcome. We can also make minor orthodontic adjustments for you in partnership with your orthodontist.

It is also very important to keep up to date with your regular check-up and cleaning while going through the orthodontic process as it can be difficult to clean with the orthodontics in place.

Root Canal Treatment

Sometimes teeth can become painful due to decay or a fracture. It is possible that these teeth may require root canal treatment - "a root filling".

To do a root filling we:

  • Make you as comfortable as possible through the use of local anaesthetics
  • Remove the nerve
  • Sterilise the canal where the nerve was and then
  • Seal the nerve canal.

In very complex cases we will refer you to one of our trusted endodontists (a root canal specialist) to make sure you get the very best treatment.

Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)

Snoring can disrupt a good night’s sleep, but can also be a sign of a more serious problem. Dr Wilkinson has over twenty years of experience in the dental treatment of snoring and is happy to provide advice and help. He is trained in the construction of both the Somnodent and Oventus appliance for snorers, and those with mild to moderate OSA

Teeth polishing and scaling

Regular scaling and polishing is very important for maintaining healthy teeth!

Over time, calculus (a hard calcium deposit) builds up on even the healthiest teeth.

Because it is hard, you can’t remove it by brushing and flossing. Calculus is porous, it quickly becomes colonised by bacteria which can lead to inflamed gums (known as gingivitis).

Having your teeth scaled by your dentist removes the layer of calculus and returns your gums to peak health.

Making sure you brush and floss your teeth well at home makes a big difference too.

Teeth whitening

Interested in whitening your teeth? At Toowong Dental Group we have many years of experience helping people whiten their teeth. We find the ‘home whitening’ system the most successful. Opalescence is one of the products we use.

So make an appointment to talk with us about whether ‘home whitening’ is the best solution for your teeth.

If it is and you decide to proceed, we’ll:

  • Take an impression of your upper and lower teeth at that appointment
  • Get our laboratory technician to make a bleaching stent (like a firm, clear mouthguard) that’s a perfect fit for your teeth.
  • Get you back in a week or so later to show you how to fit the stent, how to apply the right amount of bleach, and how to maintain your dental health.

Veneers

Veneers can be necessary to improve the appearance and structure of chipped, rotated, or discoloured teeth.

If veneers are necessary we will talk with you about your options, and the best techniques and colour selection for your teeth. We have our own state of the art laboratory on site. This lets us control every aspect of production and makes sure that you get the best quality and colour matched veneers possible.

In very complex cases we will refer you to one of our trusted prosthodontists (veneer and crown specialist) to make sure you get the very best treatment.
